PROGRAMS
Garden of Wonders

This "outdoor classroom" serves as part of our
integrated cafeteria/gardening program; the garden
gives students hands-o
n experience through planting, tending and harvesting.
This outdoor experience i
s enhanced by coordinated math science and social
studies classwork. The other half of this integrated
program is of course our Scratch Kitchen recently
featured on NPR. For a link to the NPR webpage

Spanish
The goals
of the Spanish program are to teach children basic
Spanish vocabulary and beginning conversational Spanish
skills, and to familiarize students with Spanish
speaking cultures and encourage interest in other
cultures and peoples. To accomplish these goals,
teachers are expected to maximize children’s
exposure to Spanish by speaking mostly in
Spanish. Learning activities for all levels will
be designed to foster Spanish speaking skills.
This early interaction gives
students a head start toward the study of Spanish. It
also helps students develop a long-term interest and
appreciation of other cultures.Qualified teachers are
hired under contract to the Spanish Program. The
program's teachers have lived and studied in various
parts of the Spanish speaking world. They integrate
their knowledge of different cultures into the language
instruction in order to engage the students and make
learning Spanish
enjoyable.For more information please

Monday Packets
Each Monday, dedicated parents staple together
materials for students to take home to their families.
These materials range from important school
announcements, to flyers from local businesses, to
interesting community events. Abernethy parents quickly
learn that it is important to check backpacks each
Monday for the Monday Packet materials!
The Listserve
The listserve is an internet group of community
members that allows everyone to stay informed about the
happenings of Abernethy. If you are interested in
