ORGANIZATIONS
SITE COUNCIL
The Abernethy Site Council consists of the principal,
staff members and parents. Parents and staff members
are elected by their respective peers. Minutes of the
Site Council meetings are posted in the office.
Meetings are open and will occur one Tuesday of each
month from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the staff lounge.
Primary area of concern is school improvement, a
process achieved through a written plan for the school
which is updated annually.

PTA
Meetings are generally held the 2nd or 3rd Thursday of
each month at 6:30PM in the Abernethy Library unless
otherwise indicated (see calendars for
specifics). Attending PTA meetings is a great way to
meet parents and teachers at Abernethy and to learn
about community issues dealing specifically with our
kids. We provide
child care at our PTA meetings! The child care
will be provided in the Cafeteria by middle-school and
high-school aged students. (We ask that you make a $2
per child donation if you use this service).
PTA BOARD
ABERNETHY SCHOOL FOUNDATION
This group of parents works in partnership with the
Principal, staff and the PTA to help fund teaching
positions not covered by Portland Public Schools.
An important distinction between the foundation and the
PTA is the foundations ability to hire certified
teaching staff. We are seeking the support of
parents, neighbors and local business to invest in this
important endeavor. To join or find out more
contact either.

BUSINESS SUPPORT
David Evans & Associates
For more than a decade, Abernethy has enjoyed a very
special relationship with David Evans & Associates,
Inc., a professional services consulting and
engineering firm. Over the years, David Evans has
donated countless goods and services to our school.
David Evans employees come into the classroom to work
with teachers and tutor students. David Evans has been
extremely generous in its support of Abernethy’s
canned food drive, arts program, science program and
maintaining the primary reading book library. The firm
has given us engineering support on our playground
project. David Evans has printed the school’s
annual calendar and handbook. Our school is a better
place because of the support we get from the fine
people at David Evans.
Other neighborhood businesses
Our special thanks go out to Starbucks, Washington
Mutual, Hankins Hardware, noodlin', Lippman Company,
New Seasons Market, The Neighborhood News, K&F
Coffee, Domino’s Pizza, Grand Central Baking for
their ongoing donations to our cafeteria, and countless
other local proprietors!
We also want to thank the dozens of businesses in the
Abernethy community who donate goods and services at
our annual Silent Auction each year. The Auction is one
of the school’s biggest fundraising events of the
year and we could not produce it without the support of
our merchant neighbors.
